space heritage

Space heritage can be used as an asset that reduces qualification efforts for processes and components that have successfully been in space before and are built under the same conditions for new missions.
This allows components that have already been tested and qualified for previous space missions to be reused without having to go through the entire Technology Readiness Level (TRL) verification again and thus saves significant time and money. EAGLEYARD supports such approach to save its customers budgets based on our comprehensive space program experience, knowledge and heritage.

space qualified

Typically, the result of a customized project with mission-specific requirements driven by the customer, including EAGLEYARD transparency provision of its own space heritage of materials and processes followed by LOT Acceptance Test campaigns and dedicated qualification tests conducted by our Quality Management. It is usually completed with the delivery of the required Flight Models or experimental Flight Models and execution of all related mandatory inspection points and milestones as well as the requested documentary.

space qualifiable

At this level EAGLEYARD guarantees manufacturing and testing of the laser diodes in accordance with its own experience of space related requirements. It includes a specialized bill of materials, customized processes, documentation and additional quality gates. The responsibility of the successful mission suitability of the products itself remains with the customer, because all the corresponding space verification and qualification activities stay with the customer. EAGLEYARD only guarantees the proper design and workmanship compliant with the referenced standards or procedures.

industry level

Laser diodes built on extensive experience in high-reliability industrial applications accompanied by necessary quality assurance procedures.

space Projects

LISA (ESA/
NASA)

RWL 808 nm as pump
laser for µNPRO

2037

LISA will be the first space mission to listen to gravitational waves across the universe. Our 808 nm pump lasers provide the rock-solid power source frequency reference at the heart of its interferometer.

DRAGONFLY
(Nasa)

DFB 1064 nm

2028

NASA’s Dragonfly will fly a drone across the mysterious surface of Saturn’s moon Titan. Our 1064 nm lasers power the LIDAR eyes that guide it safely and explore this alien world.

MERLIN
(DLR/CNES)

DFB 1064 nm & DFB 1645 nm

2028

The German-French MERLIN mission tracks methane, a key greenhouse gas, from space. Our 1064 and 1645 nm DFB lasers form the core of its FREQUENCY REFERENCE and LIDAR units, bringing climate science to new heights.

FORUM (ESA)

DFB 1064 nm

2027

FORUM looks deep into Earth’s far-infrared radiation to unlock secrets of climate change. Our 1064 nm lasers ensure its spectrometer captures the data with unmatched precision.

GALILEO G2
(HE-ESA)

DFB 780 nm

2026

Europe’s Galileo satellites deliver navigation you can trust. At their core, our 780 nm lasers keep the Rb-optically-pumped atomic clocks ticking with space-grade accuracy.

Cold Atom Lab ISS
(NASA/JPL)

RWE 790 nm, TPA 780 nm

2018

Onboard the ISS, the Cold Atom Lab creates the coldest matter in the universe. Our lasers cool and control atoms to enable groundbreaking quantum experiments in orbit.

EXO Mars (ESA)

DFB 760 nm

2016

ESA’s ExoMars rover orbiter will hunt for signs of life on the Red Planet. Our 760 nm reference lasers help sniff out traces of methane and other gases in the thin Martian atmosphere.

CATS (Nasa)

DFB 1064 nm

2015

The CATS instrument watched Earth’s clouds and dust from the ISS. Our 1064 nm lasers made its continuous LIDAR observations possible.

GAIA (ESA)

DFB 852 nm operated 11 years successfully in space

2013

With GAIA, Europe is mapping over a billion stars to chart our galaxy in 3D fashion. Our 852 nm lasers monitored the ultra-precise beam angle between the two on-board telescopes stabilized its atomic clock payload, working flawlessly for more than 11 years in space.
