eagleyard Photonics GmbH is an internationally operating company and is part of TOPTICA Photonics SE. We develop and produce high-power laser diodes at our innovation site in Berlin-Adlershof and distribute our products via our global sales network. Our laser diodes are important key components for applications in medical technology, analytics, spectroscopy, precision metrology, materials processing and aerospace.

As an R&D development engineer, you will play a key role in the concept creation, design, simulation and characterization of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). PICs are already being used in various growth markets such as telecommunications, industrial sensor technology and in the QT sector (computing & sensor technology) and new fields of application are constantly being developed. Your tasks

  • (Partial) project management and active technical collaboration in (inter)national research and development projects.
  • Design, validation and implementation of innovative assembly concepts and module designs for PIC-based laser modules.
  • Creation of optical and thermal simulation models of individual components and modules.
  • Experimental investigations and measurements in the laboratory to validate new laser concepts and assembly techniques.
  • Programming of small Python scripts for device control and automatic data evaluation and visualization.
  • Networking with the international laser community and research and development partners as well as attending international specialist conferences and trade fairs.


Your profile

  • Min. Master’s degree in photonics, physics or electrical engineering, preferably with a doctorate
  • You must have a sound basic knowledge of the physics of semiconductor lasers, ideally PICs.
  • Many years of laboratory experience in the optoelectronic characterization of laser diodes and photonic components.
  • You should have a keen interest in the micro-assembly of optical elements and packaging.
  • You should have successfully managed and (co-)applied for third-party funded research projects and/or industry projects.
  • Advanced programming skills, preferably in Python, to automate measurements and analyze measurement data.
  • Experience in CAD design, ideally with SolidWorks.
  • German language skills at least at B2 level.
  • English language skills to be able to participate in international specialist conferences and moderate project meetings confidently in English.
  • You are characterized by a structured, thorough and documented way of working as well as a results-oriented project organization.
