Spectroscopy (K D1 & D2)
The D lines of potassium are located at approximately 770.1 nm for the K D1 transition and 766.7 nm for the K D2 transition. In this wavelength range, the characteristic electronic transitions of potassium atoms can be selectively excited with narrowband laser light and precisely investigated in potassium spectroscopy.
Potassium spectroscopy is used for the precise determination of atomic transition frequencies, the investigation of hyperfine and isotope structures, and the stabilization of laser frequencies. Potassium is also of particular interest for experiments with ultracold atoms. Its various isotopes enable, among other things, studies of quantum gases, many-body systems, and fundamental interactions.
For the selective excitation of specific hyperfine transitions within the K D1 and K D2 lines, a narrow laser linewidth, precise tunability of the laser frequency, and high frequency stability are essential. Our single frequency laser diodes and external-cavity laser solutions for potassium spectroscopy are designed to meet these requirements and are suitable for both conventional absorption and saturation spectroscopy as well as demanding quantum optics experiments.
